Transatlantique, edited by Erik Verhagen, brings together seven artists from both sides of the Atlantic to reflect on the enduring influence of François Morellet. A Professor of Contemporary Art History at the University of Lille, critic, curator, and editor of Morellet’s catalogue raisonné, Verhagen has published extensively on postwar and contemporary art. François Morellet (1926–2016) was a self-taught pioneer of geometric abstraction and minimal art. His paintings, sculptures, and installations use rules, systems, and constraints while embracing chance, humor, and a subtle sense of play.
