Shame! and Masculinity, edited by Ernst van Alphen, explores the complexity and contradictions of masculine identities, examining how shame intersects with sexuality, fatherhood, violence, power and social expectations. Bringing together scholarly essays, short stories, personal testimonies and contributions by artists, the book approaches masculinity from a plurality of perspectives.

Contributors include Marlene Dumas, Nalini Malani, Artur Żmijewski, Lorenzo Benadusi, Tijs Goldschmidt, Maaike Meijer and others. Published in conjunction with the exhibition Shame!: Exploring Masculinities at H401 in Amsterdam, it is the second volume in Valiz’s PLURAL series.
