Damaged - Paul Grund
In Damaged, photographer Paul Grund turns his attention to Los Angeles, not as a cinematic dream factory but as a city marked by fragmentation and disconnection. Echoing Lewis Baltz’s observation that Los Angeles has already been destroyed and left standing as a warning, Grund photographs concrete boundaries, highway overpasses, faded facades, fences and tangled wires, revealing the overlooked architecture of an exhausted urban landscape.
Made almost entirely from inside a moving car, these photographs embrace speed, instinct and the impossibility of careful composition. Each fleeting image becomes a fragment of a city experienced in passing, where chance encounters and anonymous spaces suggest both alienation and unexpected beauty. Rather than offering a linear narrative, Damaged traces a quiet geography of absence and the complex ways we inhabit the built environment.
