Altafulla is the debut publication by Hannah van Well. The book brings together Hannah’s photographs with those by her late grandfather, taken in the 1950s and 60s at their family home in Altafulla, Spain.

She describes discovering her grandfather’s photographs as a cross-generational déjà vu: “I could see myself in my mother, my sister in my aunts, my mother in my grandmother. As if time and space defied physical laws for something more visceral and intimate”.

Hannah decided to go back to the house and document Altafulla herself. Placing her images alongside her grandfather’s allows Hannah to merge her own memories with those of the women that came before her. The result is an intimate visual dialogue between different eras, formats, and perspectives.
