Queer Dyke Cruising introduces a new book of rare unseen images from the influential 1988 series by Del LaGrace Volcano, published for the first time by Climax Books.

Created in response to gay male cruising culture and amidst the HIV/AIDS crisis, galvanised by the spirit of protest arising from the social landscape of this era, Queer Dyke Cruising emerged as a bold intervention, challenging limitations placed on queerness. Shot on Hampstead Heath in North London, the series captures Jayne, Zed, Kim, and Serena in intimate, playful poses, carving out a space for the queer dyke community within this historic cruising ground. Cruising, often dismissed as anachronistic, resists time. It is both tradition and rebellion, and this series from Volcano asserts that cruising is more than a fleeting act; it’s a testament to queer resilience.

Queer Dyke Cruising comprises 34 photographic plates and features a foreword by Del LaGrace Volcano, and a long-form interview with the artist in conversation with Dominic Johnson. The book was edited by Isabella Burley and designed by Christopher Lawson.
