New book published in limited edition by Acne Studios and imagined by creative director Jonny Johansson offers a look at his long-time friend’s fashion archive who is an inspiration for many.
After catching Johansson’s eye with his looks back in the 1990s, Magnus Carlsson has been the cultural curator behind the atmosphere of Acne Studios showrooms as well as the canteen and the library in their emblematic Stockholm HQ, Floragatan 13. His research and creative choices have played an important role in the evolution of Johansson’s vision and therefore the evolution of Acne Studios as a brand. “Throughout the years, his vibrant personality, his taste in books and the references he would find have fuelled my inspiration and helped me in my work.”says Johansson of Carlsson.
The book provides a comprehensive snapshot of Carlsson’s relationship with Johansson and the brand by showcasing over 200 of his outfits as visual collages of design; including a selection of contemporary and archival pieces from Acne Studios. Raw and informal photographs of the looks were captured over an extended period of time by his friends and colleagues. Additionally, the images are accompanied by detailed outfit credits that reveal a unique mix of iconic names from the annals of fashion history. In the book’s preface, Italian fashion writer Angelo Flaccavento addresses the sociological impact of fashion, offering additional context to the imagery.
