Monobloc - Zander McKenzie, Harry Boulton & Callum Harrison

Prix normal

Monobloc documents a site-specific installation by Scottish performance artist Zander McKenzie and artist Harry Boulton in collaboration with Callum Harrison. Over the course of a week in March 2025, McKenzie and Boulton staged the work across four major cities — Glasgow, Belfast, Manchester and London — in which the front door of a home was replaced with a clear cast acrylic structure (Perspex), transforming a private threshold into a public frame. In this altered threshold, McKenzie spent over 32 cumulative hours methodically dismantling and reassembling an MG F K Series 1.8 litre engine — from memory. Through this quiet, durational act, Monobloc interrogates and exposes how capitalist frameworks of labour shape space, privacy and our relationship with the built environment.

This publication does not simply document these interventions: it functions as a critical extension of the installation itself. By curating a unified work across time and place, the book reflects the distinct identities of each city-specific intervention, while binding them into a coherent whole. It features contributions by four writers (one per city), offering context, reflection, and theoretical framing. In addition, the book includes 64 hours of CCTV footage and a rich sequence of 120/35 mm photographs by Callum Harrison — giving readers access to both the physical and conceptual apparatus of the installation.
