Black Med documents the long-term research project by Italian artistic duo Invernomuto into the movements of sound across the Mediterranean Sea. Drawing on the idea of the Black Mediterranean and the work of scholar Alessandra Di Maio, the project traces intersecting musical histories, diasporic routes and cultural narratives across this complex region.

Initiated in 2018, Black Med is built around an evolving archive of music and sound fragments. This publication gathers the theoretical influences and artistic research behind the project, alongside contributions from Maan Abu Taleb, Iain Chambers, Louis Chude-Sokei, Jace Clayton, Alessandra Di Maio, Ayesha Hameed, Abdullah Miniawy and others.
